Dieting for over 30 years

I joked with my husband today, saying that I could write a book, about this journey (I’m blogging so that counts). He asked about a time when I was happy with a weight loss tool. My first response was with Weight Watchers, I lost a significant amount of weight and I was super proud of myself. However I gained it back. His next question was “what about Curves”, yes I did that too. This got me thinking. I had done these things and more …

What have i done

Tools: Whole-body vibration, eliptical and treadmill (we bought these three machines), ab wheel roller, thighmaster, (these last two were owned by mom), juicer (sold it and used the money to buy my Instant Pot), weights, kettle bells (I actually really like these), vibration belt (late night T.V. ad)

Activities: Yoga, Hot Yoga (which I LOVE but can’t afford), pilates, aquafit, Zumba, Step, walking, running (big fail, I want to run, just can’t get into it)

Diets: Atkins, WW, NutriSystem, Slimfast, Grapefruit Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet, Lean cuisine, Apple Cider Vinegar and now the Keto diet (low carb, doctor ordered).

Pills: yes, I had these too. I even ordered some pills on the internet. I definitely lost. My hair that is. The drug caused me to lose half my hair. Thankfully it grew back in. But before and after that, I used drugs that claimed to “burn the fat”. Too many to mention. Today, the only drug I take is the one prescribed to me by my family doctor, Eltroxin for my Hypothyroid.

Basically I’ve been on a diet or exercised for weight loss since my late teens. That’s over 30 years.

So where am I now?

I’m actively reducing my carb intake. Doctors orders. So, I’m reading labels, making healthier choices (zucchini noodles over spaghetti), almond flour vs enriched white flour and trying to drink more water.

Time for food! What am I making? Lots of really delicious low carb meals. I made this recipe last week and it was phenomenal, my 16 year old LOVED the eggplant! WHAT? Yes, he did. The first recipe is for the Creamy Bacon Mushroom Thyme Chicken, thanks to Recipe Critic. In the past I would have made this with Cream of Mushroom soup. The second is Crispy Fried Eggplant Rounds, thanks to Low Carb Maven. I am now an eggplant convert!
